INTRODUCTION

Introducing Mind & Soul, a significantly better and more user-friendly approach to online therapy, designed to simplify and streamline the entire process. From selecting a therapist to booking a session, every step is faster and more intuitive, ensuring that users can access the care they need without unnecessary hassle. The success of this product is driven not only by its ease of use but also by the growing demand for mental health services across the country. With more people seeking therapy than ever before, our app provides a seamless solution to meet this rising need, making mental health support more accessible to everyone.

FROM RESEARCH

Online therapy was becoming increasingly important in the UK due to growing demand for accessible mental health support. With NHS services often facing long waiting times stretching for months, online platforms offered a faster alternative for many individuals. The Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey (APMS) by NHS Digital reports that nearly 1 in 4 adults in the UK experience some form of mental health issue each year, underscoring the critical need for accessible care.

Online therapy provides privacy, convenience, and flexibility, making it easier for people in remote locations or with busy lifestyles to seek support. Research also suggests that digital therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face sessions for many conditions, contributing to reduced stigma and better mental health outcomes.

In my own research, I conducted 50 interviews with adults aged 22 to 38, and 42 of them expressed a clear need for help and support from a therapist.

Timeline

July 2020 - September 2020

Outcome

Come up a prototype addressing the problems and making it easier to book and attend therapy online.

Exploring Key Features

Below is a Lo fi sketch of UI design of key features that the app will require to have/include.

Lo-fi Prototype & Testing

The purpose of this app is to provide a easier and better process to online therapy... How do we resolve this problem? I first created a low-fi prototype to do a usability test.

In total I did a test on 8 different people between the age of 21-30.

6 females and 2 males.

From the tests conducted  majority of the testers questioned and asked after their sessions where do they log their progress and what features does this app provide besides the therapy session?

From that I followed up with them with a number of features they would want from the app. From that it took me deciding to add in a Motivational/Goals and task section on the app.

Final Design & Branding

Deciding on branding...

I came up with 4 different styles in colour and theme. That suited with the purpose of the app.

1.

3.

theme-3.png

2.

theme-2.png

4.

theme-4.png

I got 20 people to do a vote, rating 1-4 which theme they liked the most and which theme they found the most calming.

The winning theme was...

Theme 3

From that I development on components and interface design.

FINAL SOLUTION

Created a app featuring booking system, multiple ways of communication with therapist via one app. Providing a motivational task and goals exercise feature that the therapist can work with users.

POSSIBLE FUTURE STRATEGIES AND DEVELOPMENT

There are so many other features to explore. That can help aid therapist and client activities via this app. Many to explore and research on the best functionality.

User experience design is a never ending project and development. Finding the best way and cost effective resource is the way we need to approach a design.
